We love DonorsChoose.org for their mission in “connecting the public to public schools” but also for their transparency. We happen to be pretty good with numbers after 20 years of digital marketing experience - let's just say we are Excel enthusiasts - so, we accessed DonorsChoose.org's open API and downloaded years of raw data going back to 2002 (yes, they have that available). The data showed that out of $838 million dollars raised since 2002, only 5% funded "Special Education" projects, 66% of which mentioned "Autism".
With the average cost of a funded project around $538, we realized that we can help fund classroom projects with modest amounts of money, we can choose to support Special Education teachers and the impact is quantifiable.
In our first month, ShopHavly.com funded our first classroom project! We donated $232 and 100 kids in Queens, NY are going to be better off for it. It may not be much, but we think it’s something pretty great.
We are looking for our next DonorsChoose.org special education classroom project to fund. Have one in mind?
